About this venue

Freight is situated in the shadow of Mt. Elbert, Colorado’s highest fourteener. A passenger train still puffs by the window every afternoon. The gorgeous, fully restored depot holds over 200 people, making it a perfect event venue, conference center, or wedding venue in Leadville, Colorado. Along with the barn-like depot, the property includes an elegant courtyard, retrofitted whisky lime lounge in a historic shed, and conference room for workshops and intimate family gatherings.

This little shack is a subversive part of Leadville’s mining history. Much in danger due to their dilapidation and tricky problem solving, the sheds of historic towns around the West are in short supply. Not this one though! Come play I spy or just think up good ideas while sipping whisky in our lounge off the courtyard.

    Let me start by saying the venue location is beautiful and the pace is great. My issue was the customer service and the let down of the event staff and day of coordinator with the venue. If you have low expectations and are okay with balls being dropped and poor communication then you won’t have an issue. I however was expecting better quality of service given the expectation set by the tour given by the CEO and check in conversations with the coordinator leading up to the day. Numerous issues came up beginning with my room being given to another guest without checking first I had that solo room booked 2months in advance. I was told I’d be compensated and was not, I was charged two days prior and told that a complementary cider was given to “make up” for the mistake. Despite the fact a welcome drink should have been included along with some “altitude sickness” wellness amenities. The day of coordinator issues are a long list to include moved walk through time hours before when we were driving 2hrs to the venue, set up issues, multiple interruptions during my make up to ask questions appropriately only I could answer, timeline adjustments that my guests were not notified of, not organizing my guests so they knew we were starting the ceremony, my request to set my camcorder to record facing the trees missed my entire walk up to the alter, asking my guests to help breakdown the ceremony set up, missed directions with introduction to our reception, cake cutting my photographer almost missed, also left numerous times during the reception, we did not get a send off because she was not there and ended up having to pack up our wedding by ourselves. The bar staff issues were smaller but also noticeable to all guests.

    Freight was the perfect mountain chic wedding venue for our special day. Carrie and her team were prompt, responsive, and professional throughout the entire planning process and on the day of the wedding. They helped us set up our welcome table, guest book, and wedding gifts, and even packed everything up for us afterwards, sending us back to our room with leftover dinner and dessert - a delicious late night snack! The venue itself was absolutely stunning, with breathtaking views that created the ideal mountain chic atmosphere we were going for. Carrie and her team made the wedding day stress-free, keeping everything organized and on schedule so we could just focus on enjoying the moment. We are so grateful to Freight for helping make our wedding day truly unforgettable.

    Freight was the most perfect wedding venue for us. Mostly, I loved the western/ mountain/ country vibe to it, makes it very unique. It’s beautiful inside as well especially with the string lights. The staff was 10/10 amazing. I barely did a single thing on my wedding day, they had everything taken care of from set up to filling leftover food boxes for us. Loved the option to rent so many things through stellar and sage too. The indoor/ outdoor combo was absolutely perfect too. All of our friends/ fam are talking about how cool the venue was still. The cabins are an awesome bonus too to have friends/ fam right on site. Highly recommend!

    The entire Freight team was phenomenal to work with. The entire coordination process was streamlined and stress free. Nothing was missed, and everyone was a joy to work with and to be around. On top of everything, their vendor suggestions were top tier. Our day would not have been the same without this venue.
