How much do wedding & reception venues cost?

The cost of wedding venues varies, with factors influencing cost including size, location, guest count, and, most importantly, whether things like catering and rentals are included. The more a reception venue near you includes, the higher the cost. When considering venues, try to compare prices apples-to-apples. If one venue includes catering and rentals in their pricing and the other doesn’t, you need to figure out how much additional cost those outside vendors would be to make a true comparison. Before booking, be sure you’re aware of additional costs outlined in your contract, like parking fees and weather-related considerations (adding a tent, etc.).

What questions should we ask wedding venues?

When talking with a potential venue, always ask about 1) their availability and 2) their capacity. Some popular venues book up peak season Saturdays nearly 2 years in advance—if your first choice date isn’t available, consider your flexibility on day of the week and year. While maximum capacity is non-negotiable, venues might have guidance on what guest count will be most comfortable. Also, you’ll want to understand what is and is not included in the venue’s fees. Some include catering, tables and chairs, and linens, while others offer just the raw space. These venues are often less expensive because you are only paying for the space itself, and you’ll have to bring in outside vendors

“We got married at Woodsgate at the Stroudsmoor last weekend and to say it was perfect would still be an understatement. All but two of our vendors were internally through the venue and they took care of everything! From food to cake to makeup and hair to decorations, the Stroudsmoor team did a fantastic job putting together such a magical day for my husband and I. Our closest guests and us stayed for the weekend and enjoyed their gorgeous rooms with woodsy views and a delicious breakfast buffet for both mornings. Throughout the weekend, the staff were friendly and personable and were a part of some of our best memories from the weekend. “We got married here on Sunday 9/29 and I really can’t say enough good things about this space. The team was great to work with and all of our guests were so impressed by the space because it’s not like anything else really. I LOVED having the ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception all in one room because we wasted almost no part of our day shepherding folks from place to place. The caterer recommended to us, Premier, was also amazing and they were on it and had many great suggestions to make the day as great as possible as they work in the space often. If you want outdoor photos before we found two great little parks to work with and ended up doing our first look and family portraits at “Leather City Commons” which is a three minute drive down the street. Then the two of us walked the ten minute walk back to Olio from there and got some great photos by Peabody City Hall and there are truly a plethora of great brick walls to choose from for a good backdrop! For getting ready we stayed at the Bell Inn and Tavern and their team was also amazing! I got ready in a Junior King Suite my parents were staying in and their team flipped the bridal suite early (as they had a wedding party the night before) so we could do bridal portraits with the moms and my sister. My husband and I stayed there that night and the room is gorgeous. My only regret with that space is we didn’t stay longer because it was so beautiful!!! (And the room service food we ordered from the tavern for lunch was great!) Shout out specifically to Kelsey and Heather for all of their help. Logistically I was a little nervous about it being in Peabody as we live closer to Boston but parking is free on Sundays and folks could Uber easily to the venue. Many out of town folks loved being able to stay near Salem to make it a great weekend trip. Last, I cannot recommend enough having a day of coordinator. I know Sarah who runs Olio has her own planning company and would be amazing to work with. I was lucky enough to have an amazing coworker and friend who helped me out and I literally gave him a binder with everything and I did not stress about anything for the entire day. I did not see my cell phone or get asked a single logistics question all day and it was GLORIOUS. I think that covers everything and will absolutely update if I think of anything else that can help out future brides considering this great space!!!”

“TEN REASONS TO BOOK THIS VENUE (even before seeing it in person!) We booked sight unseen to get our preferred date, and the venue is only better in person! 1. Truly all inclusive and QUALITY services/ care. The Summit Team is responsive, flexible, professional, and kind. The local vendors they connect you with are detail oriented and make your vision come to life. We used their florist, DJ, caterer, baker, and photographer. We were thrilled with all of those services! The packages come with a coordinator and planner. They are incredible and make your life SO easy! I had no idea how much a would utilize these services. 2. There is no shortage of adorable decorations for you to choose from, so you save a ton of money by using what they provide (comes with the package) The Summit team sets it up and breaks it down for you. I’m particular and was honest about not liking burlap or lace. They really listened and made sure the style was exactly what I wanted. They have everything available to you on their Pinterest so it was easy to make decor selections. 3. The absolute best mountain view in North GA!!!! And there is no road noise. You might hear a ‘moo’ from the cows grazing on the hill. We toured a ton of venues and felt that a lot of them were too noisy or that parking/ layout was limiting for our handicapped guests. Summit is conveniently laid out and everything is accessible. We didn’t have to hike a mile to get beautiful photos. 4. The food is excellent! We had the Granny’s style menu and guests raved about it! Our cake was also gorgeous. They provided everything needed for dinnerware and refreshments and kept the drink stand replenished all evening while we danced! 5. It’s convenient from the ATL airport, and there’s plenty to do for guests traveling. Our family did a local wine tour. Tube the Cartecay if the weather permits! Some of our guests rented cabins and others stayed at the Hilton in downtown Blue Ridge (we provided a shuttle) and it worked out nicely for everyone! 6. The on-site accommodation (The Lewis House) is adorable! They also help you with recommendations for local accommodations/ transportation if your guests are traveling. 7. Our dog was able to be a part of our photos and ceremony! We only needed someone to take him back to the cabin for the reception. 8. Our loved ones got to enjoy the day with us. I’ve been in plenty of weddings where we worked all day and didn’t get to enjoy the celebration. The Summit Team gave our family and friends the space to cherish our day. 9. We selected the Apple Package upgrades, and our guests loved the boxed apple pies as favors. This was one less thing on our list and I would highly recommend the investment! 10. I enjoyed my wedding. The planning process was not stressful, and I felt as though I was the only bride at Summit because of how attentive the staff was. Thank you for making our wedding dream come true! “We got married a week ago at Walden and I cannot say enough about how positive an experience it was! Krystle and Alyssa (our dream team of planners) were our saviors throughout the entire planning process. I hadn't planned on using a full service planner until I found out Walden included them in the venue rental and now I can't imagine planning a wedding without them! They truly made the entire process fun, even during the more stressful parts. The rest of the Walden team is equally as amazing - the catering staff delivered some of "the best food we've ever had at a wedding," as many of our guests raved to us! The bar team also ran such an efficient operation that there was rarely ever a line for drinks, so rare at a wedding! Both teams worked with us to accommodate special requests and really felt like they prioritized making our day feel unique and special. The space itself is gorgeous and requires very little extra decoration, which is a great money saver! The separate spaces for ceremony, cocktail, and reception really made each part of the evening feel special. One of my favorite parts was the getting ready room - so rare to find in a Chicago city venue! My girls and I all had the best time getting ready in the space and it made for a very relaxing morning to already be on site. I could write 1,000 more words about how amazing this venue is but trust me when I say that if you want to alleviate as much stress from planning your big day as possible - Walden is the venue for you!!”

“The Oviatt is a wonderful venue and it was such a pleasure working with Lindsey and Gabe! We knew during our tour that the Oviatt was the right venue for us. The size (for small-medium sized weddings), location, and character of the venue is really unparalleled. Then layer on top table and linen deal when you work with a preferred catering vendor and the Oviatt is the best deal in town! Gabe was very helpful during the touring and contracting phase. He communicates very clearly which made the process very smooth. There were no surprise charges at any point. The cost of everything was communicated very clearly upfront. Then, once we signed the contract, we worked with Lindsey, the director of events who supports the planning phase. Lindsey answered all of our questions in a timely and patient manner. She never hesitated to answer our questions, even when the answers to our questions were clearly outlined in the welcome packet! The event planning tools the team uses makes it incredibly easy to stay up on all of the planning details from floorplan to linen selections, to guest count - the tool handles it all with clear deadlines for each task. Finally, on the day of our wedding the Oviatt team executed the event so smoothly. Everything went off without a hitch! Our guests were so impressed by the venue. Quintessential LA rooftop vibe with art deco architecture. Such a treat. We would recommend the Oviatt to anybody looking to get married in the downtown area. “Incredible. The Flagstaff House exceeded our expectations in every way. When we were initially brainstorming our wedding we wanted to prioritize the food and the music, aiming for a "supper club" vibe, and Flagstaff certainly knocked it out of the park. We decided on a day time lunch wedding and it was so much fun. Our guests couldn't stop talking about how incredible the event was - the 5 star food, the delicious drinks, the wait staff's attentiveness, the VIEWS. Annie coordinated our event and she was absolutely wonderful. A true professional who is accommodating to all ends. Even when we weren't sure about something, Annie was always there with an excellent suggestion on how to execute. The wait staff come around and take drink orders, as opposed to the typical wedding bar that has a huge line. The kitchen accommodated all food and allergy restrictions with ease, and the bar staff even created some delicious fall cocktails on our behalf. We couldn't be happier with our ceremony overlooking the flatiron mountains. The location is truly special. They've made us raving fans and we will certainly be back for a "regular" dinner service soon.”

“We had a wonderful experience working with Brus and the full Spruce Mountain team. They think of everything when it comes to logistics, and we didn't have to worry about a thing from the moment we showed up on wedding day until the end of the night. Our experience touring the venue a year and a half ago, coming back for the Wine & Nosh event, and doing our 30 day walk through all made the planning process so smooth and exciting for us and our families. The multiple ceremony locations are all gorgeous, and we were thrilled to be able to get married mountainside with the natural beauty of Colorado in the background. Our guests loved cocktail hour and the indoor/outdoor dinner & dancing set up. Spruce is truly a 5 star wedding venue because of its natural beauty and the organization/care the team takes in scoping out all the details, like 2 beautiful getting ready suites for the bridesmaids & groomsmen, shuttles to take guests up mountainside, and open air string lights for late night dancing. Spruce is also a popular spot that many of our vendors were familiar with, which made logistics even smoother since our bartenders, caterer, DJ, planner, and florist had all done multiple weddings at Spruce before and had great recommendations on what could work well with our vision. We hope to come back for future events and are so happy to have gotten married at Spruce!”
