He does what he wants to.
Everything went great until the day of the wedding. My husband and I have a very particular music preference and had talked with Alex Dingmann 3 times over video calls. He seemed very professional. We gave him a list of music that we wanted played for the reception. He had suggested that he use that list and play similar stuff. We said okay cool. But we then thought about it and realized we only have about 2-2.5 hours for dancing, so I reached back out to him about a week before the wedding to tell him that we would actually prefer him to just use the music we chose. He didn't respond, so I reached out a few days later and he said that was fine. Come the day of the wedding, he starts playing multiple songs right away that were not on our list and were completely not our style. I had a friend go talk to him and tell him he's not playing the right music. He continues to play the wrong stuff. I had people go up to him at least 4 times and tell him he's not playing what we asked for. I was livid and spent most of the reception talking with people to try to get him to play the correct music! I talked to his assistant who ran the photo booth and she said she would talk to him. It was only after that that he actually started playing what we requested, but still played some weird remix versions of things. We had sent him a playlist and I made an excel spreadsheet to make sure that he knew exactly what to play and he still wouldn't listen. I don't know how much easier I could have made his job. It would have been different if he actually played our stuff after the first person talked to him, but the fact that we had to have MULTIPLE people talk to him MULTIPLE times was down right ridiculous! It's been almost 2 weeks since the wedding and I'm still furious! If you want control over what is actually played at your wedding Alex Dingmann is NOT the person for you.
Response from vendor•Oct 24, 2025So... There are a few directions I could in responding to this. I will start by saying that in the end, I am sorry that your experience is not what you had in mind. Now, lets take a beat and see what happened and why. Yes, you did give me a detailed excel spread sheet. For the dancing portion of the night, there were details that specified must plays along with songs that were to be played earlier in the dance set and songs for the last hour. All of this was over 4.5 hours worth of music. By the time Hannah & Max actually did get to the dance floor, there was about 2 hours of time left of dancing. Simple math says that this is not going to happen. I know the exact moment and song that you are referencing. Because you put yourself in such a dilemma with the time you had, I mixed 2 songs that WERE on your list together to try to give you time to get more of your songs played. I had 3 people that came up to me immediately yelling at me to play what was on the playlist. It didn't end there though. I had more people come up to me rudely yelling at me as the night went on. Let's remember, the 2 songs that I did mix together were on the list of songs to be played. In the end Hannah was likely ultimately upset because she took her time deciding to start dancing even after I encouraged them to start dancing. Not only did I do everything that was asked, I went above and beyond to try to help with the dilemma that we were all faced with, and this is how I treated for it. Hannah... I am happy for you Max, and I am also sorry that your experience was not what you had in mind.Found Your Next DJ!

Alex is an absolute phenomenal DJ, officiant and human! We couldn’t have asked for a better one anywhere else (and one that communicates). He brought light humor, great conversation and a really good time to our wedding! My husband and I highly recommend Alex!

3rd Shift DJs were a fantastic addition to our wedding day! Their communication leading up to the event was great - they were timely, helpful, and insightful in addressing all of our questions and needs. On the day of, Matt was communicative, fun, and truly helpful in keeping the energy high and making sure the music and timeline flowed seamlessly. He assisted us with time management throughout the reception and was attentive to playing songs requested by our guests. We would highly recommend 3rd Shift DJs to any couple looking for an experienced, professional, and personable DJ team to help make their wedding day a success!
