The St. James Hotel is an official historic Minnesota wedding venue in the heart of downtown Red Wing, Minnesota. Nestled between the picturesque backdrop of the Mississippi River and Minnesota/Wisconsin countryside, the St. James is made up of five charming venues that can accommodate up to 240 wedding guests. As an all-inclusive venue, services include a dedicated Wedding Specialist, a pastry shop, ceremony and reception spaces, ready rooms, catering, room blocks for hotel events, and an on-site salon and a flower shop. The St. James is a boutique hotel with 67 Victorian styled guestrooms, an on-site restaurant and cocktail lounge.

    Our wedding planning experience and wedding day with Shelly and her team was absolutely singular! We had so many compliments on everything: The hotel's beautiful and well-maintained historic decor; the excellent service the staff and management provided, the tasty and elegantly presented drinks and food. We had a 'micro' wedding package that included a lot at a reasonable rate, as a bonus included some amenities (like chair covers) we were not offered when we looked at other venues. For comparison, we looked at North Shore locations, the twin cities, and wedding barns/wedding venues in SE MN. On the day of the wedding the little added details we weren't expecting meant our expectations were exceeded. Planning: Shelly is very well organized and has an attention to detail we were impressed by. If we did have a question or needed more information she was quick to respond. Communication was clear and the contract was detailed and easy to understand with no hidden fees/surprises. Location: We had guests from the twin cities and the Rochester area, and they all had an easy time getting to the hotel with ample parking provided for guests. About two blocks away from the hotel we had easy access to a River front park and historic train station for photos and some guests chose to explore the independent shops in downtown Red Wing. Event Space & Setting up: We were given a very generous timetable for our personal set up time. Honestly, we had only one hesitation and it was that we had to keep in mind the Historic area has a noise restriction earlier than other areas and is a public part of the hotel so not all of it can be closed off-- except during the ceremony the hotel staff make sure to keep non-wedding guests out. Nothing really came of that except a few 'peek in' people who were asked to please move along and did without fuss. Drinks and Dining Options: Cocktail hour: guests remarked the drinks were generously apportioned. For the sit-down dinner, we were given several delicious options to choose among and were able to sample before the day of so we were able to tailor our dinner menu. All guests said their food was delicious, with one even comparing it as on par or better than many dinners he has had in Twin Cities restaurants. We got compliments on the cake and desserts, with remarks about look but also moist and tasty wedding cake! After our event the communication was just as timely and clear as you could want and left us with a very positive lasting impression. We were able to settle the last details quickly and final totals were as promised. We would, without reservations, recommend the St. James and the wedding experience we had to others!

    The St. James Hotel - Est. 1875 - was an incredible venue for our wedding. From the very beginning, their communication was consistently reliable and clear, which put us at ease throughout the planning process. Shelly, our coordinator, was a true professional and offered solutions for any challenge we faced, even last-minute requests. She was one of our biggest cheerleaders, going above and beyond to help us make our vision a reality. The venue itself is full of history and has amazing views that made for the perfect backdrop to our special day. We are so grateful to Shelly and the entire St. James team for making our wedding day truly unforgettable.

    We were fortunate enough to have the Rehearsal Dinner and Welcome Party for our son and his bride in the Portside Room. We were blown away by how beautiful the venue was, and how fantastic the staff was! Not only was the venue incredible, but Shelly, Liz the staff were AMAZING the night of! Shelly was our coordinator from day one and she knocked it out of the park. Being from out of town in Tennessee we instantly built a relationship with Shelly, placing our trust in her, and she did not disappoint. Shelly was full of energy and expressed genuine kindness to our family. She was detail oriented, patient, organized, communicative, responsive, fun and a gem to work with. The front desk and bartenders in the Port Bar were great, super fun, and easy to work with. The kitchen staff created a fantastic Italian buffet for us, and the pastry chef created a fun, personal and delicious groom's cookie cake to serve late night. Clementines Florist helped create beautiful tablescapes with greenery and flowers that were perfection! Since many of our guests stayed at the hotel, spending time on the patio at Scarlet's Restuarant helped us create even more quiet memories with breakfast and lunches. If you’re considering booking the St. James Hotel, we would HIGHLY recommend it!

    My wife and I had just the most delightful wedding this past New Year's Eve at the St. James Hotel! The venue was immaculate and looked so perfect in all its holiday splendor for a big winter party. We took advantage of multiple spaces over the course of our wedding week, including the Port speakeasy, the Historic Lobby, and the breathtaking Summit Room--each of which provided a unique and memorable backdrop for our festivities. The service we received from the staff at the St. James was second-to-none! Shelly and her team were responsive, communicative, and able to help with all of our numerous questions. In fact, we were so well taken care of by the St. James team, that we did not even need to hire a wedding planner and we were still able to have a perfect ceremony and reception. The food and cake also exceeded all of our expectations and were the cherry on top of a perfect wedding venue experience. We would recommend the St. James to any couple looking for a convenient and affordable wedding venue for a large wedding near the Twin Cities, but especially to any couple planning a New Year's Eve wedding--the hotel is the perfect combination of elegant and spacious to throw a perfect party to ring in the new year.
